Saturday, May 6, 2023

Lexington, KY – The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, Inc. is excited to announce its upcoming celebration of Armed Forces Day on May 20. The museum will host a special program presented by retired Air Force Colonel Steve Parker, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Colonel Parker retired from the Air Force in 2000 as a Colonel after 30 years of service. During his distinguished career, he flew five different AF jets (most of his Air Force flying time was in the C-141 Starlifter). He commanded four organizations and visited 93 countries. The major conflicts in which he participated included Vietnam, the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, Panama, the First Gulf War & Bosnia.

After his retirement, Colonel Parker served as the Executive Director of the Aviation Museum of Kentucky (2000-2004), Deputy Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Aviation (2004-2010), Senior Aviation Consultant for Stantec Consulting (2010-2015), and Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Aviation (2015-2018). He also taught public speaking classes at UK from 2000-2012.

His wealth of experience and expertise will be on display during the program, as he shares his first-hand review of history that deserves to be remembered. The program will be an informative and engaging experience for anyone interested in aviation, military history, or the sacrifices made by our armed forces. Attendees will also enjoy light snacks as part of the evening’s festivities.

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, Inc. invites all members of the community to join in the celebration of Armed Forces Day on May 20. Admission is free for all attendees. Donations to support the museum’s ongoing programs and exhibits are always welcome.
