F14 Tomcat

The F14 Tomcat was one of the US Navy's most powerful and lethal fighter interceptors it is able to track up to 24 targets simultaneously and can attack up to six at once. This aircraft was built in 1984 at a cost of $38 million and served on the carrier USS Harry S. Truman. During the summer of2005 it was in combat in Iraq. Due to its complex airframe and the harsh sea environment at the end of its service life the F 14 required 40 to 60 maintenance hours per flight hour. Its wings are left folded for hangar deck stowage. It was flown to the Aviation Museum from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, on October 5, 2005 by Lt. Commander Jeff Dalatri and Commander. Mike Wallace.

The aircraft can be found in Hangar A.
