Thursday, December 10, 2020 – LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY: Dr. Benjamin Malphrus, Executive Director of the Space Science Center at Morehead State University, a recognized expert in radio astronomy, cube satellite technology, and prolific author, has been named to the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame.
Malphrus has published The History of Radio Astronomy and served as co-editor for the recently released CubeSat Handbook Morehead State University; he has created three academic programs in pursuit of research grants and has produced awards exceeding $30 million. Malphrus has also secured $7 million+ in equipment and instrumentation gifts for the MSU program from NASA, the Department of Defense, and other sources. A previously unknown galaxy, identified as NGC 5291-B, was discovered through his research.
Malphrus is part of the 25th Enshrinement class into the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame. Other honorees are Terri Donner, UPS captain and long-time proponent of aviation careers for women, and Dr. Wilma Walker, professor emeritus of Eastern Kentucky University, where she developed Kentucky’s only four-year Aviation undergraduate degree Th Aviation Achievement Award will be received by Atlas Air, a leader in air cargo services, for its commitment to Kentucky-based operations and growth.
The Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame has recognized honorees since 1996 for their contributions and achievements in aviation and aerospace The honored represent a wide range of military and civilian pilots, scientists, administrators, and corporate leaders.
Due to the interruptions caused by COVID public health restrictions, a formal induction ceremony will be held at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky in Lexington on November 13, 2021.
