
Bell AH-1F Cobra

The Bell AH-1 Cobra was designed based on the successful UH-1 Huey. It became the worlds’ first operational attack helicopter. It has tandem seats with the gunner in front operating the weapons systems and the pilot behind.
The first series was delivered to the US Army in 1967 and used immediately in the Vietnam War. It was used to escort transport helicopters, provide fire support for ground troops and perform special operations and even search and rescue.
They began phasing out in 199. It is armed with 8 TOW wire guided missiles, the M197 20 mm, 3-barreled cannon, and the M 229 2.75 rocket launcher. The Cobra on display accumulated over 7,900 hours of flight time and saw combat in 1971 in Vietnam. On March 3, 1970 it sustained damage from enemy fire. This helicopter served with the Air Cavalry, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Maximum cruise speed is 135 knots. The twin engine “Super Cobra” is currently in use by the military.
