The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is providing admission at no charge to all veterans and their immediate families during the Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 25 through Monday, May 27. "The service of all American veterans deserves to be honored," said Gerry van der Meer, president of the museum. "Our collection provides an opportunity to learn about the aeronautical heritage of the Commonwealth. The military aircraft and related displays especially recognize those citizens who have served in our military. We welcome them all." Two new features are now available to all visitors. An exhibit honoring the World War II Doolittle Raid mission of April 1942 is complete, and the on-the-ramp observation area is open. The observation area permits guests to watch aircraft ramp traffic at Blue Grass Airport safely from the tarmac, at the level usually confined to ground crews and ramp personnel. Museum hours are 10 am until 5 pm on Saturday and Monday, May 25 and 27, and 1 pm until 5 pm, Sunday May 26. Monday is normally a day that the museum is closed, but we will be open for this special day. The museum policy of free admission for active duty military personnel will also be in effect during this recognition of American veterans. |
