Wallace Sidney Park
was enshrined in 2024

Born in Louisville in 1898, Wallace Sidney Park was a visionary who forever changed the field of aerial photography. A founding partner of Bowman Field, Kentucky’s first commercial airport, Park’s career took flight in 1921 with the creation of the Bowman-Park Aero Company. Combining his love for aviation with a passion for photography, Sid pioneered aerial photography techniques, starting with a modest Canadian Jennie aircraft and a handheld camera. Park’s groundbreaking work in aerial mapping and topographic surveys led to significant projects, including a large-scale survey of rivers in Indiana for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1928. His innovations continued through World War II, where he designed training tools for aerial photographers and developed more accurate cameras for the U.S. Geological Survey. Sid’s contributions went beyond technology—he shaped the aviation community by helping establish an Air Corps Reserve squadron at Bowman Field. His leadership and expertise in photogrammetry set industry standards and earned him widespread recognition. Park's legacy lives on through his company, Park Aerial Surveys, and his indelible impact on aviation and aerial photography. It is fitting that Wallace Sidney Park be enshrined in the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame as a true pioneer.
