Born in 1969 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, General Chance Saltzman has risen from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of military leadership. As the current Chief of Space Operations for the United States Space Force, he leads the nation’s most advanced military branch, overseeing more than 14,000 personnel and managing 77 spacecraft that safeguard U.S. interests in space.
A graduate of Bowling Green High School, Saltzman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University before commissioning as a second lieutenant through the Air Force ROTC program in 1991. His career began in missile operations, where he quickly distinguished himself, leading his team to victory in the prestigious Guardian Challenge Space Competition. This early success laid the groundwork for a career defined by strategic vision and operational excellence.
Saltzman’s expertise in space warfare continued to grow through roles in the National Reconnaissance Office and as an instructor at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School. In 2016, he was handpicked to spearhead the Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) initiative, earning him the title “Father of Multi-Domain Operations” for his groundbreaking work in integrating air, space, and cyber operations.
In 2020, Saltzman became the first general officer to transfer to the U.S. Space Force, where he was later appointed as the Chief of Space Operations. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the future of U.S. space defense, ensuring the nation's superiority in the final frontier.
