Born in Corbin, Kentucky, 90 years ago, Evelyn Bryan Johnson has logged more than 57,000 flight hours. She is a current Flight Instructor, an FAA Flight Examiner and has been the Morristown, Tenn., Airport Manager for the past 46 years.
An Honor Graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College, Evelyn learned to fly at Island Airport, Knoxville. She has given more than 9,000 FAA check rides. She stopped counting after 3,000.
Former students occupy the flight decks of airliners, corporate and military planes, and charter services and as flight instructors in trainers. On a recent commercial flight, the captain welcomed her aboard and stated that she had more flight time than his entire crew.
Holder of every rating except glider and balloon, Evelyn is the recipient of numerous state and national awards for contributions to aviation. Evelyn "Mama Bird" Johnson continues her first love - teaching others to fly.
